The MLB Power Rankings for Week 9: Looking at the Strongest Teams

If you’re wondering which are the strongest teams in the MLB and how they can compare to the rest of the league the power rankings are offered.

There were a few changes to the rankings for this past week, as we will likely see during many of the weeks going forward.

The Tampa Bay Rays are on Top

The Rays have been climbing the rankings and find themselves at the top of the heap right now. This team solidified their spot by beating the Yankees recently at the Bronx and they currently hold a 35-20 record that puts them at the top of this list. This team closed the month of May with a 22-6 record which makes it the winningest month in franchise history.

Second Place goes to the San Diego Padres

The Padres fell one spot to the second position after being on top of the power rankings for the MLB last week. This team continues to be part of the mix at the top and is proving to be one of the strongest teams in the league. The Padres have a record of 32-21 after nine weeks and look to be a team that could contend for the title this year.

In Third, we See the Chicago White Sox

After winning five games in a row, this team moved up three spots to be in the third position on this list. The White Sox have a 33-21 record and just might be the team that represents the American League Central when it comes playoff time. Will this team make it that far or will they have a slump in the middle of the season?

Fourth is Where We Find the Los Angeles Dodgers

After being in the second spot last week, the Dodgers fell two places to be in the fourth position on the MLB Power Rankings. This team is working to defend its World Series Championship and is certainly one of the strongest teams in the league. This team carries a 32-22 record through nine weeks and should be one of the favorites when it’s time to see which teams make it to the MLB Postseason.

The Fifth Spot Belongs to the Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox have won seven of their last ten games to bring a 32-21 record through nine weeks. This team fell one spot from fourth to fifth and is competing for the American League East Division. Will this team be one of those that will be part of the teams pushing toward the playoffs as we come closer to the end of the season?

Moving from Ninth to Sixth, We See the San Francisco Giants

The Giants have a record of 34-20 and have enjoyed a strong performance over the past week. This team found its way to move up three spots to be in the sixth position on this list. If you’re looking for one of the strongest teams in the league, the Giants just might be one that will lead the way beyond the All-Star Break.

The Houston Astros Are in the Seventh Spot

Last week, the Astros had a strong week and were able to move up one spot from eighth to seventh on this list. This team has a 29-24 record right now and looks to be ready to make a push toward the top of their division as we move toward the middle part of the MLB season. Will the Astros represent their division in the playoffs? Only time will tell.

We See the Oakland Athletics in the Eighth Position

The Athletics moved down one spot from the seventh position last week. They lost three games in a row, which caused this fall from a higher position. Even so, the A’s might be one of the strongest teams in the league and they currently have a 31-25 record that could carry them forward through the middle of the season and beyond.
