Chowing Down in the Motor City

So you’re in the Motor City for a business trip or maybe you even have just moved there and aren’t sure where to go for a good meal out and about, check out this guide for some of the best knife and spoon joints here in Detroit. From the classics to the small plate invasion to incredible steak spots, there is more than enough to eat in Detroit, so you won’t be sorry if you decide not to cook for the night.

The Hit List

Roast –Located on Washington Boulevard in the city of Detroit, there is an incredible steak and chop house where you can really sink your teeth into some red meat or just enjoy a couple of delicious and amazing cocktails. Owned by famed chef Michael Symon, the dinner menu features several incredible appetizers like mussels or chilled lobster. Reservations are almost always required to get a table in this restaurant, no matter what the night, so be sure to call ahead before showing up.

Ottava Via –If you’re craving delicious Italian food, then make your way to Ottava Via. Here you’ll find an awesome selection of antipasti in the form of olives and delicious cheeses, so dig in before you get to the main course, but make sure you save room. You could try a selection of small plates in lieu of an entrée or you could with their traditional or non-traditional dinners like Branzino or Porchetta.

Slows BBQ –Opened in 2005 with a commitment to making gourmet barbecue, Slows now has several different locations and is occasionally asked to guest start at other locations. With a healthy catering business to boot, the Slows train is going anything but. With an incredible array of sandwiches on their menu, they will wow you in that respect, but check out the brisket enchilada if you want something awesome.

Selden Standard –As a big believer in the local food movement, the head chef and partner Andy Hollyday started Selden Standard with the belief that he could make it into a big meal with friends rather than a cold dining experience and he’s done just that. With brunch, lunch, and dinner menus, this restaurant is loaded with awesome choices. Try grilled quail or some fresh fried rice and experience the freshness of the local produce.

While there are hundreds of amazing places to have dinner or even breakfast or lunch in the Motor City, these places are some of the most highly rated or award winning places on the map. Enjoy yourself!
