Buick Offers a Very Dynamic Mid-Sized Sedan with the 2014 Regal

The 2014 Buick Regal is one of the new offerings form the Opel branch which is GM’s subsidiary in Europe helping to design some of the all new Buicks. Offering a revised suspension, a turbocharged engine, and an all-wheel drive (AWD) option the Regal offers much more than its competition in this class. Having a decidedly sporty feel the Regal is offered in three models, base, standard, and GS with the base and standard coming in three trim levels each.

The Regal is the best choice for anyone looking for a bit of driving excitement in the mid-sized sedan class that doesn’t necessarily need to move to the top of the luxury spectrum. With gorgeous styling and excellent agility the Regal offers performance in unexpected ways from a manufacturer that made its name as a maker of comfortable cars that attracted the older generations rather than the younger ones. With the advances made and sheer road beauty the Regal is made to attract buyers of all ages.

For 2014 the Regal is updated all around and inside as well. Offering enhanced infotainment and safety as well as an updated turbocharged engine the Regal has the advances in power. Also added are a new electric power steering system and the AWD options to really push the Regal over the top in the mid-sized sedan class.

The driving experience in the Regal is one of comfort and responsiveness. With a stiff and well-tuned suspension and the new electric power steering the car handles the road imperfections with an easy and smooth feel that isn’t often found. The steering is highly responsive taking in any input from the driver allowing the vehicle to dart in and out of traffic with ease. One sure expectation is a quiet ride when in a Buick and the Regal delivers in this category as well, not allowing any of the road noises into the cabin to bother the occupants.

The leadoff batter for the engine lineup comes in the form of a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine that offers 182 horsepower and 172 lb.-ft. of torque. According to Miami Buick, this base engine is powerful enough for all driving needs and when partnered with the six-speed automatic transmission and eAssist mild hybrid functions the fuel efficiency comes in at 25 city/36 hwy mpg.

Next to the plate is the first of the two turbocharged engines starting with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine that brings in 259 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. For the six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive (FWD) the fuel mileage shows up at 21 city/30 hwy mpg and when set up with AWD the mileage comes in at 19 city/27 hwy mpg; not at all a bad tradeoff for the driving control offered by an AWD sedan.

Finally the big hitter is the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine that powers the GS models of the Regal. This engine offers the same 259 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque as the second engine but this one actually can be set up with a manual transmission for those true sport driving enthusiasts. When set up with the six-speed manual transmission the fuel mileage is 20 city/31 hwy mpg and when given the automatic transmission the fuel mileage is 21 city/30 hwy mpg for the FWD and 19 city/27 hwy mpg for the AWD version.

Offering top of the line materials and designs inside the cabin the Regal is very comfortable and reaches a level that many luxury sedans don’t achieve. Adding controls to the at a glance display and on the steering wheel to allow for better control and keep the attention of the driver on the road, the Regal is easy to control and all knobs and buttons are within easy reach. Rather than the Regal of old that had 17 buttons the 2014 model only has seven, allowing the easier control to almost be intuitive. Adding plenty of legroom to the rear seat allows all occupants to feel very comfortable inside the vehicle and ride with easy pleasure.

On the outside the car appears to be a signature Buick with the gorgeous vertical grill and chrome accents that adorn the entire outside of the vehicle. Adding the LED lighting that is found all around the car as well as smooth and easy to appreciate curves and lines all over the car, this is an easy car to park in front of the house and feel very good about owning. With a sophisticated appearance that is finished off by the19-inch five dual-spoked wheels that give the final touch to the car that is truly living up to its name of being Regal.

Standard offerings for the Regal include leather upholstery, a 12-way adjustable power driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, an 8-inch color touch screen with Buick’s IntelliLink infotainment system, a rearview camera, Bluetooth connectivity, a seven-speaker audio system, 17-inch wheels, stability and traction control, and anti-lock brakes with braking assistance. This allows even the most basic Regal to be a very comfortable vehicle to ride in for everyone.

The optional features for the Regal are packaged like many other vehicles and include AWD, a nine-speaker Harman/Kardon sound system, a navigation system, rear parking assistance, an eight-way power adjustable passenger seat, a power sunroof, 18-inch alloy wheels with 20-inch available on the GS model, push button starting, HID headlights, blind spot alerts, lane changing alerts, lane departure warnings, rear cross traffic alerts and adaptive cruise control. All these options can really turn the Regal into a truly luxurious vehicle for all to enjoy.

With a starting price at $30,615 for the base model the Regal is a lot of car for the money. Adding the Premium I package bring the price to $32,485 and the Premium II will raise it to $34,685. The GS model starts at $37,830 and AWD adds $2,175 to the price for the lower trims and $2,365 for the GS.
