Movement in the MLB Power Rankings for Week 21

Over the past week, we’ve seen some surging teams and some that are heading in the wrong direction, which changes the MLB Power Rankings.

Each week we take a look at the teams in the MLB to see how they rank and where they are going. While some of the teams at the very top haven’t changed, we don’t have to look too far down for some shuffling in this list.

San Francisco Remains in the Top Spot

The Giants have been holding down the top position in this list for several weeks and they continue to have the best record in baseball at 80-44. Last week, the Giants took four games out of six when going against the Mets and the A’s, which caused some of the upheaval in this list and shows that San Francisco is a team to be reckoned with.

The Gap is Closing and the Dodgers are Surging

The Los Angeles Dodgers are in the second position on this list, which isn’t a change in the lineup. With nine wins in their last ten games, the lead the Giants had on the Dodgers is closing and their 78-47 record is seriously impressive. This should make for interesting the last several weeks of the season as we work toward the playoffs to see which teams will find themselves playing for the World Series Championship.

Tampa Bay Continues to Hold the Third Position

The MLB Power Rankings list still has the Rays in the third spot and after a four-game sweep of the Orioles, they have shown they belong in this position. Along with that sweep, the Rays took two out of three from the White Sox and continue to hold a lead in the AL East. Their record of 77-48 is the best in the American League right now.

The Milwaukee Brewers Move Up to Fourth

The first change in our list is the Brewers moving from fifth to fourth to show they are one of the strongest teams in the league. Milwaukee holds a record of 76-49 and has a large lead in the NL Central, which could bode well for them heading down the stretch. The Brewers bring a complete team to every game.

Houston Falls to Fifth

As we look at our MLB Power Rankings, we can see that the Astros have fallen a little bit. It’s not likely they will be dethroned in the AL West, but they are now in the fifth spot on this list. The Astros hold a 73-52 record and have dealt with some injuries that are looking like they will end soon. We should see Houston representing their division in the postseason.

The White Sox Hold Onto the Sixth Spot

With losses in four out of the last five games and a record of 11-10 in August, it’s difficult to see how the Chicago White Sox will hold onto their spot in this list. Even so, the AL Central leading White Sox have a 72-54 record which is a healthy lead and won’t likely be challenged by other teams in their division.

The New York Yankees Move to Seventh

One of the hottest teams in baseball since the All-Star Break has been the Yankees. It’s a good thing for them since they have been left in the bottom half of the MLB Power Rankings for much of the first half of the year. The Yankees move up from ninth to seventh on this list and have a 73-52 record to go along with a long winning streak that includes several very close games.

Boston Falls Down to the Eighth Position

During the winning streak for the Yankees, the Red Sox have faced a lot of trouble. This team is 8-12 in August followed by a tough July which has left them behind the Rays and Yankees in the AL East. Boston currently has a 71-55 record and hopes to at least hold onto one of the Wild Card spots to make it into the playoffs.
