Power Rankings for the MLB After 19 Weeks

Power Rankings for the MLB After 19 Weeks

We are coming closer to the end of the baseball season and while some teams are making a push upward, the power rankings don’t change much.

It seems the teams at the top of the list are continuing to stay there while others are trying to break through the proverbial ceiling to reach into the levels that will land them in the playoffs at the end of the season.

Topping the Charts; the San Francisco Giants

We’ve lost count of how many weeks the Giants have been on top of the list, and they continue to be there. This team has a 71-41 record and could be on their way to a World Series title. In the past several days, they have won seven of their last nine games against the Astros, Diamondbacks, and Brewers, to put up excellent numbers and show they are one of the best teams in the league.

Moving Up One Spot We See the Tampa Bay Rays

The Rays found a four-game winning streak that pulled them up from third to second in the power rankings. Part of this streak was three games against the Red Sox at Fenway Park. The Rays bring a 68-44 record through 19 weeks and have a serious chance of being the best team in the American League as we continue to finish the season.

Third Belongs to the Houston Astros

The Astros drop one spot after losing three of four games to the Twins over the weekend, but after that, they have a relatively easy schedule for the rest of August. Houston has a 66-46 record and seems destined for the playoffs, which will only give us more of the drama we want to enjoy as the “Bad Boys” of baseball show up in the postseason.

The Los Angeles Dodgers Hold the Fourth Position

There were in this spot last week and continue to be in the fourth spot in the power rankings. The Dodgers are the current World Series champions, but if they can’t find a way to overtake the Giants, they will be a Wild Card team in the playoffs. They recently took two of three games from the Angels, but that’s not anything to write home about.

Moving into Fifth; The Chicago White Sox

The White Sox have been mired with injuries all year but are ready to get some of their guys back at the right time. The team has held onto a strong record of 67-46 and lead the AL Central. With the return of some key players, this team is poised to make a deep run in the playoffs and be one of the toughest teams to face.

The Milwaukee Brewers Find Themselves in Sixth

Excellent pitching leads the way for the Brewers who are in the sixth spot in the power rankings this week. This team has been one that has leaned on that pitching staff all year and they currently lead the NL Central and have one of the best ERAs in the game. If you’re looking for a team that might play spoiler to the NL West in the playoffs, it could be the Brew Crew.

Falling to Seventh; The Boston Red Sox

With only two wins in the last eleven games, the large lead that Boston had on other AL East teams is gone and the Rays are now in the lead in the division. They may have to settle for a Wild Card spot, but even that’s in question right now. Even so, the Red Sox have a 65-49 record, which is pretty strong and could be enough to carry them forward.

Eighth Continues to Belong to the San Diego Padres

The third of the NL West teams on this list, the Padres have a 65-49 record and could be the second Wild Card Team and the third from this division in the playoffs. The Padres have a lot to play for and could be the youthful team that shows the world how much fun baseball can be once again.
