Get Ready for Championship Weekend in the NFL
After concerns over COVID-19 and the thought that we might not see the NFL make it through an entire season, Championship Weekend is upon us.
January 24, 2021, will be the date that the two remaining NFC teams and the final two AFC teams meet for a chance to move on and represent their respective conferences in the Super Bowl on February 7. Let’s talk about how we got here from the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
Four Teams Remain Standing
After a great weekend of NFL football, only four teams remain. These four are the Green Bay Packers, Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After games in which all teams faced some level of uncertainty, these are the teams that will battle it out to see who will be in the Super Bowl and ultimately become the Super Bowl LV Champions.
Starting With the NFC Teams
The first game on Sunday will feature a rematch from earlier in the season, in a different location. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers faced off in Tampa against the Green Bay Packers earlier in the year and it was a heavily one-sided affair in favor of the Bucs. The NFC Championship game is located in Green Bay as these two teams will face off with the George Halas Trophy on the line.
Packers Over the Rams
The Packers made their way to the NFC Championship game by being the top-seeded team in the conference and winning over the Los Angeles Rams this past weekend. This game featured the top defense versus the top offense in the league and the offense came out victorious. There wasn’t a time during the game that the Rams has the lead and that vaunted defense only stopped the offense on two drives.
Buccaneers Over the Saints
The Buccaneers had a different journey to the NFC Championship game. As the fifth seed in the conference, the Bucs had to first beat the Washington Football Team in the Wild Card Round and then traveled to New Orleans to play the Saints. While the Saints did take a lead twice, four turnovers by the Saints offense led to several scores by the Buccaneers who won the game and will now travel to Green Bay.
Moving on to the AFC Teams
Following the NFC Championship Game, the late slot will offer you the AFC Championship Game which has the Kansas City Chiefs playing host to the Buffalo Bills. These two teams will play a rematch from earlier in the year in which the Chiefs beat the Bills. With the Lamar Hunt Trophy on the line, these two teams will look to become the AFC representative in the Super Bowl.
Bills Over the Ravens
This past weekend, Orchard Park, NY was rocking as the Bills welcomed the Ravens and 6,700 fans to the stadium for a tough matchup. Most of the game was a defensive battle as both offenses seemed to have trouble finding their groove. In the end, the Bills found a way to outlast the Ravens and emerge victorious on Saturday, to await a matchup with the winner between the Browns and Chiefs.
Chiefs Over the Browns
The Chiefs played host to the Browns in a game that gave us two very different halves. The first half showed the Chiefs dominant with a score of 19-3 at the break. The Browns found their footing in the second half and began to threaten with scoring in the third quarter. This charge was aided by the injury to star quarterback of the Chiefs Patrick Mahomes. In the end, the Chiefs squeaked by the Browns and will face the Bills on Sunday.
Storylines for the NFL Games
The NFC Championship Game will feature two quarterbacks that are sure-fire Hall of Famers once their careers are over while the AFC Championship Game features two gunslingers that are just starting their careers. With Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady facing off, the NFC game is sure to be a battle of wits. Having Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes going against each other is sure to be a thriller as well.
These Games are Must-See
Even casual NFL fans will be tuned into the games on Championship Weekend. We will be treated to a pair of amazing games and will know at the end of Sunday which two teams will face off in the Super Bowl to win the coveted Vince Lombardi trophy. Get ready for some amazing football and a lot of fun.
