New Hobbies to Try in 2019
Benefits of Hobbies
Hobbies are better ways to spend your free time. Instead of spending every night glued to the TV, use that time to be productive and fuel yourself with something more meaningful. You may find yourself learning a new skill or trying something new that you’ve always been curious about, but never had the time to try. There are countless hobbies to choose from, and who knows, maybe you’ll find you have a passion for one of your new hobbies. Hopefully, these ideas will inspire you to try one or find something else you’re interested in!
Dabble in Art
The world of art is full of possibilities and new hobbies to try. There are so many mediums you can work in including drawing, painting, sketching, sculpting, and even hand-lettering. The list goes on and on. If you’re a beginner, start small and only buy a few supplies at first. Do some research and find the best art supplies for newbies and then hop on YouTube or Skillshare and try some simple tutorials. Don’t feel pressured to have the right collection of supplies by expensive brands. When you’re just starting out, you can keep things simple.
Take up Cooking
Cooking is a fun and a very useful hobby you can take up at any time. You can start by buying a cookbook by your favorite chef or find recipes for your favorite meals and start making subtle changes and make them your own. Cooking has many benefits from helping you save money by not eating out and making meals at home to educating yourself on what ingredients go into each meal. When you take the time to prepare something yourself, you feel proud and enriched that you are the one providing for yourself.
Learn to Play an Instrument
Remember middle school when you were forced to join the band or orchestra? Maybe you stopped playing the violin or trumpet after your mandatory three-year stint, and now that you’re older you wish you had taken up a different instrument. Learning an instrument as an adult is a little harder, but certainly doable. If you don’t want to go the traditional and often more expensive route of private lessons with a music teacher, you can self-teach yourself through YouTube, Yousician and other instrument learning software. When it comes to investing in the instrument of your choosing, going the used route will save you some money. Now if this is something you know you’re dedicated to learning, then it’s worth it for you to buy a new, high-quality one that will last you decades.
Learn a New Language
High school shaped you into who you are and forced you to take two years of a language often either French, Spanish or German. It’s easier than ever to learn a new language nowadays, thanks to apps like Duolingo, Babbel, and busuu. There is also Rosetta Stone, which used to be the only digital way to learn a new language and at a high price. Duolingo is completely free unless you want to pay to remove ads. They have a wide assortment of languages, giving you the chance to pick what you actually want to learn. Learning a new language is a great way to learn about a new culture, prepare for any global traveling or just a way to enrich yourself.
Make Time for You
Hobbies are not just another way you can express yourself, they’re a means of self-care. When you prioritize yourself and do something you enjoy, you’ll feel less stressed about other aspects of your life, and you’ll be happier doing something that is 100 percent for you and no one else.
