The Five Best Beaches Near Long Beach

With a name like Long Beach it better have some great places to relax in the sand, right? Well, good news, it does! There are several beaches local to the area where visitors or new residents can check out every breathtaking scenic view that the Pacific Ocean has to offer. Whether you’re looking to explore how delightfully cold the ocean really is or if you just want to take a stroll on the sand, the area has plenty to offer for avid beachgoers. Check out of these top five hot spots, or hit up a different one every week.

Beach Life

1. Rosie’s Dog Beach –This beach is a great little area of Belmont Shore Beach. Between Roycroft and Argonne Avenues along Ocean Avenue, you’re allowed to bring your dogs to the beach. Let your pooch of the leash to run in the sand. Walk alongside them in the sand or chuck a ball so they can burn off their excess energy. From 6am to 8pm every day, your dog can be off his leash. Cones are often used to denote the boundaries where your dog is no longer allowed, so pay attention!

2. Alamitos Beach–If you’re a sun worshipper, this is the perfect beach for you. There is plenty of space to lay out and enjoy the beach with fellow sunbathers. If you’re into the idea of slamming into the sand and playing some beach volleyball there are plenty of courts to flex your athletic abilities. Bike your way across the sand, watch the water, or just enjoy the view, but if you plan to swim, check with the lifeguards first.

3. Long Beach City Beach –This one is the main beach in the area and quite the popular one to boot. Called Junipero Beach by the area locals because of the street on which the parking lot is located. There are paved paths for cyclists, as well as a pedestrian path for walkers to enjoy. There is very little in terms of waves, so you won’t be taking on any surf lessons, but there is plenty of sun and sand and some great views to enjoy.

4. Marine Stadium Beach –This beach got a little bit famous for hosting Olympic rowing competitions twice, but it also plays host to plenty of other water-based competitive sports. This isn’t the beach for sunbathers, however, as most people use the water for boating and rowing. Waterskiing is also quite the popular hobby for people who frequent Marine Stadium Beach.

5. Mother’s Beach –This is the place to go when you’ve got kids who want to get in the water or play in the sand, perhaps the reason for the name. There are plenty of amenities like a concession stand, a protected swimming area, and plenty of great spots to enjoy a nice little picnic. A hot spot for kayakers and paddleboarders, there is plenty of stuff to watch if you’re not an ocean swimmer. Any day at the beach can’t be considered a waste, so get out and explore your surroundings this weekend.
