There are many jobs that we don’t know exist, but many of them help make our world go round or keep civilization as safe as possible from natural disasters. Here are some of the most extreme seasonal jobs you never knew existed.

Volcano Researcher

Imagine studying in college only to be put in harm’s way because you’re fascinated by volcanoes. These professionals venture extremely close to these potentially dangerous mountains to collect data. The exposure to toxic gases, hot lava flows, and the unpredictability of volcanoes makes this an extremely dangerous job. Some of the time, these professionals are I the office compiling and analyzing the data collected, but much of the work can be dangerous and requires special equipment and safety precautions to return from the mouth of a volcano without injury.

Wildlife Biologist

Being a Wildlife Biologist is one of the most extreme seasonal jobs. In addition to working with wild animals, which can be unpredictable, these professionals must endure extreme cold, heat, and dangerous environments. If you don’t mind humidity and heat, or the dry and cold, this could be a good job or you. Of course, you’ve also got to work with dangerous wild animals and study them, which means there’s always the threat of attack and disease while working in some of the most remote locations in the world.

High-Altitude Window Cleaner

If you’re not afraid of heights, this could be the job for you. This is a job for someone who loves to be outside of the office and spend time mostly alone at dizzying heights. These window cleaners use ropes and other safety devices to keep from falling to their death, but still put their lives on the line every single day. Some of the tallest buildings in the world require windows to be cleaned every day, making this a never-ending job. This is a popular career among rock climbers and extreme athletes.

Storm Chaser

The weather isn’t as boring as it seems. While most of us associate an obsession with the weather with getting older, some people are fascinated by storms and choose to chase them. The most common storms that people like to chase with specialized equipment are tornadoes. These are the most unpredictable storms that occur in areas in which vehicles can actually follow the storm. Storm chasers provide valuable data that can improve the understanding of these powerful weather storms, but it takes a lot of courage to put yourself in the path of a tornado.

Ice Road Trucker

This dangerous career has been featured on a show with the same name, showing just how challenging and dangerous it can be. This is one of the most extreme seasonal jobs that’s also extremely important to the people at the destinations. These brave truckers must navigate icy rads in Alaska and Canada to bring essential supplies to isolated communities in the northern territories. If you watch the show, you’ll think these truckers are insane.

Shark Diver

If you want to dive deep in the water and face danger every day, being a Shark Diver could be for you. This is a profession in which you can quickly become lunch for some of the largest and most aggressive creatures in the ocean. Shark Divers study the behavior of these creatures, take pictures o them, and try to find ways to help preserve and protect endangered species. This is one of the most extreme seasonal jobs, but as long as you move with the sharks, the season is never over.

Wilderness Search-And-Rescue Specialist

Your love of nature, extreme fitness level, and desire to help those in need can lead you to a fantastic career as a Wilderness Search-And-Rescue Specialist. This job requires that you rescue people from remote locations, such as mountains, forests, and deserts. Typically this job is put in action when someone has gotten lost or hurt and can’t get out of the situation or find their way back to civilization. This means going into some of the most extreme locations, regardless of weather, to save other people.
