Full Redesign

Improved Performance
The Lexus GX was overdue for an update in the powertrain department. Its previous 4.6-liter V8 was strong and reliable, but it was also terribly outdated with an output of only 301 horsepower and 329 pound-feet of torque. The new engine is a 3.4-liter V6 with twin turbos that makes way more torque at 479 pound-feet. The boost in torque and horsepower ups the new GX’s towing capacity to 8,000 pounds versus the outgoing model’s 6,500 pounds.
Better Off-Road
With all the big improvements for the new Lexus GX, it’s not a surprise that it also offers much-improved off-road ability. The Overtrail model is the only one with the Electronic-Kinetic Dynamic Suspension, which disconnects the anti-roll bars when a need for increased wheel articulation is detected. This gives it roughly 24.5 inches more articulation than the outgoing model. The new GX also offers 8.7 inches of ground clearance compared to the 8.1 inches on the previous model. The Multi-Terrain system offers several selections, including dirt, sand, mud, and deep snow.
Civilized On-Road
As a luxury SUV, you’d expect it to be civilized on the pavement, but the new GX improves its road manners quite a bit over the outgoing model. Despite its body-on-frame construction, the GX features precise steering and more controlled body lean. There is some shimmying and vibration, but it’s more suppressed in the new model versus the old one. An optional Adaptive Variable Suspension improves the ride even further.
Best Interior to Date
Last but not least, the new Lexus GX has an updated interior that might just be one of the brand’s best interiors on any vehicle. It’s modern and luxurious, but it also features an abundance of physical controls for superior user-friendliness. It also includes a 14-inch interface touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.
When it comes to updates over the outgoing model, the Lexus GX has improved in every area, from towing capacity to off-road chops.
