Want to get outdoors but feeling uninspired? There are many reasons not to go out and pursue an outdoor hobby: lack of interest in exercise-heavy tasks, your preference for being alone or with friends while you’re out. And then, there’s the distance from where you are to where you can pursue your hobby.

What if none of those things mattered? Here are five hobbies that don’t always include exercise and can be done alone or in a group. You can even do most of them in your own backyard!

Hiking

This is a classic sightseeing exercise hobby. With a backpack of water and good boots, you can go at your own pace and see some of the wonders of nature across the country. From local parks to the Appalachian mountains, there’s always a walking trail to try!

Go alone or with friends; you can even camp on some trails if you’re on a multi-day trip. Carry extra supplies in your truck if you travel out of town to hike.

Grilling Outdoors

What if you want something more social and less exercise-heavy? A good grill can help you host outdoor parties with neighbors and share your love of food. Get friends and family together to share recipes, play a football game, or just sit around and talk while enjoying some good grilled burgers.

Be the go-to guy for food and party planning in your neighborhood!

Kayaking

For water lovers, try kayaking. It’s like hiking, but on water and sometimes at high speeds! You can take classes at your local college to meet others who share your hobby and start a group or go out alone on a calm river.

What about getting to the water? How will you transport your kayaks? No problem; just put them in the back of your Ford F-150, and you’re on the way!

Gardening

If you’re looking for a more calming activity that allows you to create and share, look into starting a garden!

Whether you make a small personal flower bed, a family-maintained herb garden, or participate in a community garden growing vegetables and fruits, you’ll get a great workout and a sense of accomplishment as your seedlings grow. As you’ll see in the video below, you don’t need a huge space to grow your own flowers and veggies. It’s a great way to spend time outside. And, let’s be honest, a tomato right off the vine beats store-bought every time!

Photography

Make lasting memories by pursuing photography – and see the best sights with nature and landscape photographs.

You get the same sense of adventure and opportunity to travel as you would with hiking and kayaking, but without the strenuous activity. And if you’re skilled enough, you could even be invited to events like weddings and grand openings in your area!

Spend Some Quality Time Outdoors This Year

There are so many hobbies you can pursue that will get you up and out the door every single day. These five are only some of the best examples. So, find the one that speaks to you the most and pursue it!
