Things to Do in Indianapolis This Summer

Indianapolis has the honor of being the Hoosier state’s capital, and it’s a city filled with surprises. From the mouth-watering food to the diverse entertainment and its rich history, there is something for everyone. And, during the summer, the events and festivals will keep you busy and entertained the entire season. Take a look at some of the best events and fun things to do in Indianapolis this summer.

1. Check Out Live Performances at the 2022 Porch Concert Series

There’s nothing like  summer fun activities, and in Indianapolis, you can catch three different concerts as part of the Indianapolis Propylaeum Porch Concert Series. Bring your blanket and stretch out on the large lawn of the Propylaeum on N. Delaware Street and enjoy the music. The concerts are free and open to the public. Get there early to find a seat and grab a snack, and the show starts at 8 p.m.
It all gets started with the Sidewalk Souls on Friday, July 8. This Indy-based rock band got its start right in Indianapolis.

2. Light Up the Night at the Indianapolis Water Lantern Festival

The Water Lantern Festival returns to Indianapolis on August 20, 2022. This inspiring annual event takes place at Military Park, where guests can release their lanterns into the canal. Over 100 different cities across the U.S. hold the Water Lantern Festival, and Indianapolis is lucky enough to be one of them. The festival is all about peace, making connections, and creating a magical experience. Along with the release of the lanterns, there will be food, music, and lots of entertainment. This is a can’t miss event, and tickets are on sale now.

3. Celebrate Summer at the Blues, Beer and BBQ II

What’s better than good music, good beer, and good food? Nothing, and you don’t have to go very far out of downtown Indianapolis to enjoy it all at the sixth annual Blues, Beer, and BBQ Concert Series in Cumberland. This popular area event takes place in the backyard of Retulled at 11623 E. Washington Street. The best part of this Indianapolis summer event is all the concerts are free, open to the public, and family-friendly.
Whether you’re a lifelong Blues fan or you just want the beer and food, the Blues, Beer, and BBQ II events are a must. The first concert features Gordon Bonham on June 25th, or you can head to the July 30th show to see Gene Deer and Harper & the Midwest Kind.
