With another week in the books and several games being played, we see some changes taking place in the MLB for the Week 7 Power Rankings.
Will this trend continue all year or will there be some consistency in the list as we get more games on the record? Right now, we don’t have one-third of the season played and with 162 games for each team, we are a long way from the finish line.
The Chicago White Sox Find Their Way to the Top
A surprising change to most but not to the White Sox themselves, this team from the northern side of Chicago is in the top spot this week. Last week, the White Sox were in the seventh position, but a strong week with hot bats rocketed their 25-15 record to the top of the list.
Falling One Spot We See the Boston Red Sox
Which color of socks do you want? This week the white ones are on top and the Red Sox have fallen to second after being in the top spot for only one week. This Week 7 power rankings position is the result of a blown save this past week and a 25-17 record. Will the Red Sox move back to first next week? Wait and see.
The Oakland Athletics Find the Third Spot
You might think the A’s would be higher than the Red Sox this week after winning four of six games against them and the Twins last week. It may take the Oakland A’s proving themselves a little more. Currently, this team holds a 25-17 record that is strong enough to lead the AL West and give this team the feeling they are going places at the end of the year.
Moving into Fourth is the San Diego Padres
Another team with a 25-17 record is the Padres who are in the fourth spot in the Week 7 power rankings. This team had players out last week due to a COVID-19 outbreak. Even so, this team moved up from the fifth spot to fourth on the list to be the first of the National League teams in the list that matters.
The Houston Astros Are Looking Strong
Houston has won nine of the last eleven games and had a six-game winning streak during that time. This team is in the fifth spot and rightfully so. Their 24-17 record is one the stands up as a good record to give us a team that might make its way to the playoffs. Will the booing continue into the postseason? We’ll have to see where the Astros land at the end of the year.
The San Francisco Giants Are in Sixth
The Giants hold serve in the sixth position and have a record of 25-16. The Giants continue to rely on impressive pitching to carry the team through games and win low-scoring contests. If the bats ever get hot for this team, they could be very dangerous down the stretch and might be a tough team to beat in the National League postseason.
The St. Louis Cardinals Fall to Seven
Last week, the Cardinals were in the third spot on this list, but this week they are in seven. The Cards got swept by the Padres which caused this fall. The record of 23-18 is a strong one and this team will be tough to beat most of the year but find themselves in this position for Week 7. Expect the Cardinals to make a quick recovery and be back near the top of this list.
In Eight, We See the Los Angeles Dodgers
Once at the top of this list and currently the defending champions, the eighth position belongs to the Dodgers. They also have a record of 23-18 and have won several games but have also found their way to looking beatable at times. Will this team find their way back to the top and make it to the World Series? It’s a long season and we’ll have to see what happens.
