The Impossible Whopper Goes Nationwide
The Impossible Whopper from Burger King is taking the country by storm to give you a great taste when you want to enjoy a vegan or vegetarian alternative.
You’ve seen the ads on TV, your flexitarian social media buddies may have tried one out of curiosity and blogged about it, and if you follow a meat-free diet yourself, you may have gobbled up one or more by now. Burger King’s famous plant-based Impossible Whopperwas made available in all 50 states in August 2019, after a successful test run in seven markets.
The fast-food chain’s“100% whopper 0% beef” burger is apparently satisfying the growing demand for non-meat alternatives and most say it looks and tastes just like the real thing.
Tread Lightly on the earth –eat an Impossible Whopper!
The results are in and it looks like, overall, the new vegetarian offering has been well received by carnivores and herbivores alike. It may not fool the meat-eaters, but it satisfies those who want to lessen their meat intake because of the environmental impact of cattle farming. It pleases vegetarians tired of settling for fries and a limp salad, and even strict vegans are sure to be happy with this new offering.
It “bleeds” like actual meat!
The Impossible Burger is made by Impossible Foods and designed to taste and “bleed” like real meat. The current recipe was developed by DavidLipman, the company’s chief science officer, who said they “spent years analyzing meat and recreating every element of the sensory experience.”The other popular meat-free burger available on many restaurant menus is the “BeyondMeat” burger, made by Beyond Meat.
A meat-free revolution?
Demand for plant-based meats is growing and the new veggie options, which are causing quite a stir, are poised to become a $140 billion industry, with Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat at the forefront. With big chains like Burger King and Subway coming on board the meat-free train, they may just reach their goal of starting a plant-based “meat” revolution.
Other restaurants and fast-food chains that offer the Impossible Burger include Red Robin, Hard Rock Café, select locations of Cheesecake Factory, Applebee’s in New York, Dave and Busters, White Castle and Qdoba (in Impossible Bowl and Impossible Taco form.)The Beyond Burger is available at Subway, Carl’s Jr., TGI Friday’s, Dunkin’ and other restaurants.
And Beyond Meat has also tested out its vegan fried chicken at an Atlanta KFC and the response was amazing.
Vegetarians/vegans now have a choice!
Many of us have been opting for Burger King’s veggie burger (which is also pretty tasty) for years now, and so with this new addition to the menu, vegetarians and vegans now have an unusual dilemma –which veggie option to choose?
