If you’re familiar with the story of the prodigal son in the Bible you know the son attempted to go out on his own. He also took his portion of his inheritance only to lose it all and need to return home after a long list of failures. Volvo is certainly expecting and hoping that the Polestar 1 doesn’t turn into a prodigal child in its ventures. For the first time ever, this tuner brand from Volvo is about to venture on its own and offer us a new model that will be a vehicle that tests the market and shows us what this sub-brand can offer.
This new model is called the Polestar 1 which will be a new hybrid model that takes its inspiration from the Volvo S90 flagship sedan. This model will be built on the same Scalable Platform that is used with many of the Volvo sedans and it will show up with two doors and a shorter wheelbase to be a performance luxury coupe that will be incredible for us to drive. This new stand-alone car could be the one to show Volvo that Polestar can venture out on its own and be effective in the market.

We want to know more before we commit to this new sports luxury model from Polestar. The Polestar 1 is a car that will use a brand new Ohlin continuously controlled electronic suspension system, offers up a ton of carbon fiber body panels and items which allow the car to have a lower weight and improve the torsional rigidity of this car. The center of gravity is also increased because of the way the car is built. This car will be a high-performance plug-in hybrid model that offers what you’re looking for to have the drive.
This incredible new car will have an output of 600 horsepower and 730 lb.-ft. of torque using the Drive-E powertrain and two electric motors to power the rear wheels. These electric motors will allow the car to give you 93 miles of EV driving to be a car that can save you a ton of gasoline on most of the days you drive. By using torque vectoring to improve the traction you won’t need to push the brakes to stop the fun you have out on the roads and at the track in the new Polestar 1.
This new car is the first of three that are expected from this sub-brand. The second model will be an EV mode which will be followed by an SUV. The production runs for this sub-brand from Volvo is slated to be 500 cars per year which limit the number of people who will be able to own this car. The Polestar 1 is expected to be offered on through a subscription service to allow for the car to be customized and offered with the items you want. You can expect the new Polestar 1 to have a variety of excellent qualities and technology for you to have the driving experience you want in this hybrid sports luxury car.
