Fifteen years ago, Microsoft changed the gaming industry with the launch of their Xbox video game
console. With the upgraded graphics system and the bevy of incredible titles on the market, the Xbox
offered something that the video game world had been desperately seeking; competition for Sony’s system. It did just what it was meant to do; it offered a viable alternative for gameplay. Released a year after Sony’s second offering, the PlayStation 2, the Xbox was a shocking addition to the console market as it came from a software giant. Since then, the Xbox has seen several upgrades.
The first upgrade, the Xbox 360, offered better graphics and upgraded gameplay. It did not feature full backward compatibility as the PlayStation 2 had, but many of the older titles were made available for this system as well at a lower cost. Xbox did something miraculous in the competitive market as well. They beat the release of the next offering from PlayStation, making them a better option for formerly devoted Playstation fans. When the PlayStation 3 released nearly a year later, some people had already made the switch, while others chose both. From then on, PlayStation and Xbox went head to head, releasing updated, newer versions of each console, before buckling down to manufacture and release the next system. The newest Xbox, the Xbox One, arrived to the market in 2013. It was twelve years after the first incarnation appeared and it was barely recognizable from its previous versions. Three years later, they put out the Xbox One S. It offered greater graphics, better playback capabilities, and a more streamlined and simplistic looking design. Cut to now, as we are rapidly approaching the release of the next upgrade, people are wondering whether or not the Xbox One X will be worth the price.
Features and Price
Being touted as the “world’s most powerful console”, the newest Xbox release is set to hit the market in
early November of this year. The price tag is reported to be similar to that of the original Xbox One–just under five hundred dollars. With such a hefty price tag, fans want to know if it’s really going to be different enough to justify upgrading. Complete details are a little bit scanty, as Microsoft is playing their cards pretty close to the vest. According to the early reports, this console is going to be better than anything we’ve ever seen from the Xbox system. Reports say that the sound is so realistic that you’ll be questioning whether or not there is a sniper on the roof of your apartment building or if the planes in your game are actually flying overhead. However, this type of sound can only be heard with the proper equipment, so your bill is going to be accumulating quick rapidly if you want to keep up with the technology. If you’ve been to in a store in recent months, you’ve seen the latest technology –4K–and the Xbox One X will have the complete visual capabilities to handle it. This probably accounts, at least partially, for the
price as the video cards needed to run that kind of graphics are quite expensive and this system is reported to have the top of the line. It will play regular Xbox One games, but newer games will obviously look quite a bit better.
With plans to release, just in time for the holiday season, the geniuses at Microsoft know exactly what they’re doing. They’re putting their new system on the market right in time for Black Friday shoppers to snap them up, and it’s very possible that it may be the price.
