IPhone X: Worth the Wait?
iPhone is famous for keeping quiet when they want to keep details mum about their latest products, but the earliest reports about the iPhone 8 that leaked were actually the specs for the iPhone X. There are a lot of jokes circulating about the press conference that was held regarding the capabilities of the iPhone X, calling it the $1200 emoji maker, due to its ability to translate your facial movements into an emoji, thus creating an animoji. This was the most-hyped ability by bloggers after that announcement, but the iPhone X can do a lot more than that.
The iPhone X is the first of Apple’s iPhone brand to feature full length glass screen, rather than having the border around the outside as per usual. It also has a better battery life, wireless charging, and a bunch of other attributes that Apple thinks are worth the price jump. While the phone is pretty revolutionary for Apple, it’s not all that new for other phone makers so people who don’t want to wait until the beginning of November, may have already made the jump or simply settled for the iPhone 8 instead. Is the X worth waiting for?
A Phone is Just a Phone
The fact that there is this much debate surrounding a phone is a little bit ridiculous. We don’t want to think about the fact that our lives have become ruled by our technology, but we’re all talking about whether or not we’ll buy the most expensive iPhone to ever hit the market. The price tag for the iPhoneX with the lowest specs is $999, and that’s for the 64GB. If you’re considering the upgrade to 256GB, you’re looking at shelling out around $1150. Most wireless carriers will allow you to use a payment plan to purchase your phone, but it’s still around $45 a month.
There are a lot of people out there claiming that it isn’t that much more expensive, but when you look at it next to the iPhone 8, or even the 8 Plus, it’s at least two hundred dollars more costly. Here’s the bothersome thing about the X, however, it’s so much more breakable. Of course, an iPhone screen is already pretty easy to crack and not so easy to get properly fixed, but this phone is all screen. There has to be some additional vulnerabilities when you think about how much is going to be controlled only by touch. If the screen on this phone breaks, how do you continue to control the phone.
iPhone users have had a difficult time with their phones as soon as they hit the two year mark or when a brand new iOS comes out. Conspiracy nuts would tell you that Apple makes their phones so that they self-destruct –so to speak –as the newer releases are coming out. Usually they release a brand new software update and then a couple weeks later they release the new iPhone. For people with the previous generation’s iPhone, once they download the upgrade, their phones start to behave in an odd manner, thus encouraging them to go out and buy the newest iPhone. This year, Apple will release the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus on September 22 and then the iPhone X will release on November 3. Two iPhones in one year is a bit of a different strategy for Apple, but given the hype surrounding both versions, it should be a banner year for the iPhone. As to whether or not you wait to buy the X, the choice is yours, but if you want the best of the best that Apple has to offer, wait until November.
