I was speaking to a parent the other day and was a little surprised to hear her complain about how much time her kids were spending on their iPads and smartphones. She’s in her forties and talked about how much time she spent outside playing with friends instead of having her nose buried in devices.
From her perspective, this shift has happened over the last decade. As I reminded her, she’s about two decades off. While she was graduating from high school, I had my head down in most situations playing my Game Boy. I wasn’t the only one.
Reddit posted this image. It’s a reminder that the mobile handheld addiction thing didn’t really start with this current generation of connected kids. We might not have had as many options, but a lot of us who are parents today had our heads down in devices as well.
