John Boehner’s attack on Ted Cruz is a good thing for the campaign

John Boehner Jackass

There’s a point when a politician’s opinions become so incoherent or even deceitful that their own party turns on them. In the case of Speaker of the House John Boehner, the universal nature of the disappointment towards him makes his comments about GOP Presidential candidate Ted Cruz a positive thing for the campaign.

Boehner has been attacked from the left and right. Many members of his own party have discussed or even attempted to oust him from his lofty position, but he’s been able to come through it all unscathed for the most part. That doesn’t change the fact that he’s not respected inside or outside of Washington DC. When he called Ted Cruz a “jackass” at a recent fundraising event, the comment has been echoed in ways that make it seem like an important endorsement.

In other words, if Cruz is getting under Boehner’s skin, he must be doing something right for the country.

Even those who aren’t Cruz supporters lashed out at Boehner for breaking President Ronald Reagan’s famous “11th commandment.”

This plays well to the campaign idea that Cruz is not a Washington DC insider but rather a man who will go against his own party to get things done in Washington. Boehner’s comment further solidifies the Cruz campaign contention that he’s a man for the people.
