Inspectors General to ask Congress to reverse President Obama’s decree

The Council of Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency didn’t care much for the Justice Department’s decision requiring them to get permission to review sensitive documents from the agencies they’re investigating. In essence, the decree calls for them to ask various government departments for permission to do their jobs.

Congress is expected to hear about the matter in detail today based upon a letter sent to congressional leaders on Monday. Their claim is that this will hamper transparency and make their investigative abilities nearly impossible. It’s paramount to law enforcement asking permission for every investigative action they take against a suspect.

According to Fox News:

The council represents about 70 IG offices across the government, including for the Federal Communications Commission, the National Security Agency and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. While the July 20 ruling applies to the DOJ, some are worried it will prompt other departments to set similar restrictions.
