Australia PM bumps up warnings about Islamic State
The Islamic State is bad and it’s probably worse than you think. That’s the gist of the message from Australia’s Prime Minister Tony Abbott as he tries to alert the world that they do not have ambitions isolated to Iraq and Syria. They don’t even want to simply control the Middle East. They want to be the dominant power on the planet.
In what he calls a fight against terrorists “with global ambitions,” Abbott described the Muslim extremest group as a “death cult” while opening a regional counter extremism summit in Sydney. According to CNN:
Recently Australia has taken measures to combat terrorism, including a controversial move to strip citizenship from known terrorists who are dual Australian nationals. The passports of 115 Australians have been canceled, nine others whose travel plans had been “suspect” have been suspended, and 14 passport applications have been refused.
