Russian jets confront US warship in Black Sea
Tensions between the United States and Russia continue to escalate. This time, it was a US Navy ship in international waters in the Black Sea that acted “aggressively” towards the Russian border that prompted the response: launching Su-24 jets to intercept the warship.
No shots were fired and the USS Ross never crossed the border, but the Russian news agencies are reporting that it was another strategic victory that their military undertook by repelling the threat. The Pentagon called it routine operations in international waters and didn’t really acknowledge that the fighter jets were even considered a threat.
It’s posturing and sabre rattling at the highest level. The two military superpowers seem to be ducking and dodging each other at every possible instance with both countries provoking while acting innocent. How the world sees it could determine whether or not it ever escalates into a full conflict.
The Independent reports:
The Russian defence minister, speaking at a security summit in Singapore, said US missile ships operating near Moscow’s territorial waters “pose a danger to strategic stability” between the two countries.
