Six male bodies and one female body was found in Tachira state near the Colombia border. The people had been tied together with barbed wire and were shot. There is also evidence that they may have been tortured before being killed.
Local Mayor Alejandro Garcia believes they will find more.
“It is presumed that there are other mass graves. That is the information that the armed forces are working with,” he said.
The area is known to be dangerous to both traveler and locals. So close to the border, it could have been smugglers, a paramilitary group, or drug gangs who committed the murders.
