Golden State Warriors point Stephen Curry beat Houston’s James Harden for as the Most Valuable Player for the National Basketball Association. Cleveland Cavaliers’ Lebron James, Oklahoma City Thunder’s Russell Westbrook, and New Orleans Pelicans’ Anthony Davis rounded out the top five.
It has been a back and forth match between the two top contenders most of the season. Leading the Warriors to a club-record 67 wins likely solidified the win through which he received 100 of the 130 possible first place votes.
Both players are fighting in the second round of the playoffs. Perhaps we will see them play head-to-head so that we can find out which player and team deserves the ultimate NBA prize. A Washington Post article pointed to some interesting things about this year’s vote:
(Los Angeles Clippers’ point guard Chris) Paul led the league in assists (838) and, according to Basketball-Reference’s MVP tracker, was projected to finish third in the voting behind Curry and Harden. The voters disagreed, with none casting better than a third-place vote on his behalf.
