Doesn’t it suck when you’re looking at a menu and can’t decide what you want to eat? Wouldn’t it be so much easier if there was some kind of system that was able to determine what you’re most likely to enjoy? Well, thanks to eye-tracking technology, a new menu at Pizza Hut has just the system, according to Tech Times.
Known as the Subconscious Menu, the American pizza chain’s new high-tech menu displays 20 popular pizza toppings and then uses eye-tracking technology to determine which toppings the customer looked at the most. This takes less than three seconds, after which the menu uses an algorithm to identify the customer’s perfect pizza from a list of 4896 possible combinations.
According to Slash Gear, the system was developed by a Swedish company known as Tobii Technology which specializes in eye-tracking technology. After six months of development, Pizza Hut claims that the system has a 98% success rate, but if a customer isn’t satisfied with the computers choice, they can always try again.
“We wanted to try a few ideas on the traditional menu format and we’re delighted to have developed the world’s first Subconscious Menu, a unique way to reinvent the dining experience,” said Kathryn Austin, head of marketing at Pizza Hut. While the menu is still in the early trial stages, but the system could potentially be rolled out across Pizza Hut’s branches.
