HBO officially announces an adaption of Westworld
HBO has officially announced that it has order a full season of Westworld, a new television series that’s based on a hit book by Michael Crichton and a 1970’s cult classic movie. Anthony Hopkins and Ed Harris will star in the adaption, which will be written and directed by Jonathan Nolan with J.J. Abrams serving as executive producer, according to IGN.
“This is built as a series and, in terms of storytelling, I think the rules are definitely being broken,” HBO programming president Michael Lombardo told The Hollywood Reporter back in August. “The promise of the show, in terms of where it’s going, is exciting to actors, and they want to be a part of this.”
HBO made the announcement through Vine with baffling and incredibly creepy video. Even more unsettling is the show’s official logline, which reads: “Westworld is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin.”
Hopkins will portray the main character in his first-ever role as a series regular, while Harris will portray the, as of yet, unnamed villain, according to CNET. These two veteran actors will be joined by the likes of James Marsden (X-Men: Days of Future Past), Evan Rachel Wood (True Blood), Thandie Newton (Mission: Impossible II), Jeffery Wright (Casino Royal), and Miranda Otto (The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King).
