Yishan Wong steps down as the CEO of Reddit
The CEO of Reddit, Yishan Wong, has resigned after spending more than two years at the head of the extremely popular community-curated message board. Wong left the company last week, Reddit investor Sam Altman explained in a company blog post, because of a disagreement with the board over the location and amount of money to be spent on Reddit’s new offices.
“Yishan wanted to move the office from San Francisco to Daly City,” Altman wrote in the blog post, as quoted by CNET. “The board pushed back but said we’d agree to it with certain data. This is certainly not what I was expecting to be dealing with so quickly after investing in Reddit, but we’ll make the best of it.”
In response to a question on Quora asking why he resigned as the CEO of Reddit, Wong said: “All of the reasons that Sam has outlined in public are true. I know it sounds somewhat unbelievable because it’s so weird, but if it was made up, I think any PR person would have come up with a better made-up story.”
“If there is a deeper reason, it is this: The job as CEO of Reddit is incredibly stressful and draining,” Wong continued, as quoted by Forbes. “After two and a half years, I’m basically completely worn out, and it was having significantly detrimental effects on my personal life. If anything, I probably pushed myself way too far.”
