Android 5.0 begins OTA rollout to most Nexus and Moto devices
Good news for Android users, Google has announced that OTA updates for Android 5.0 Lollipop are currently rolling out for most Nexus devices. Owners of these devices should be receiving a push notification telling them that their Nexus device is ready for an OTA update, according to GigaOm, or they can manually check for an update in their settings.
The Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 are receiving minor bugfix updates as well, while OTAs for the Nexus 4 and cellular versions of the Nexus 7 are still forthcoming, according to Ars Technica. There’s not much that users can do to receive an OTA, which can take several weeks to roll out to a device’s entire user base, but with a little command line know-how, users can immediately apply a downloaded factory image.
This Android update schedule was different than usual, as Motorola released the Lollipop update on its own second generation Moto G and Moto X smartphones in the United States before Google even released the update on its own Nexus line of devices. According to ZDNet, Motorola also plans on bringing the update to the first generation Moto G and Moto X, as well as its Moto E, Droid Turbo, Droid Mini, Droid Ultra, and Droid Maxx devices
