NVIDIA’s CEO claims that the age of console gaming is over

Perhaps a decade ago, one could argue that console gaming was superior to PC gaming. It was significantly more expensive to build a decent gaming PC than to simply purchase a console in those days, not to mention that slow internet speeds made online multiplayer gaming annoying, which consoles got around by allowing for local multiplayer gaming.

Things are much different now, however, as gaming PCs can achieve, and more often than not, surpass the performance of consoles while still being similarly priced, and the internet is fast enough to support smooth online multiplayer gaming. Nowadays, it simply comes down to which platform you prefer, or which exclusive games you want most.

According to Gaming Bolt, however, NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang doesn’t just believe that PC gaming is superior to console gaming, he claims that the “glory days of consoles are now over,” and that consoles are eventually going to die off, to be replaced entirely by gaming PCs.

“My sense is that the game console platform is not likely to enjoy the heydays when it was really unambiguously the only and the best game platform to enjoy games,” Jen-Hsun told investors, as quoted by Game Politics. “It’s just not true anymore. There are just too many other ways to enjoy games. Without any question is that the PC is continuing to expand the number of titles. Great titles are coming to the PC. It is continuing to grow and the quality of titles is growing up ever so fast.”

“The PC has become the world’s largest game platform,” he continued, as quoted by Load the Game. “China, the developing countries around the world, PC is a piece of platform they already own. They can upgrade it two, three, four times without having to change the basic platform. So the total of cost of ownership of a game PC is quite attractive. And so I think that there’s too many other ways to enjoy games now, for the game console to enjoy the hay days of the past.”
