Game of Thrones producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have confirmed in a Q&A with film students at an event in Spain, where the show is currently shooting, what many people have already suspected, the next season of Game of Thrones will feature the first flashbacks in the series, giving us a look at what Westeros was like before the events of the show.
Both Benioff and Weiss have long defended their decision not to use flashbacks in the Game of Thrones series because they felt it would be best to keep a continuous plot and delve into the rich folklore and history of the Seven Kingdoms through dialogue alone. However, the two have loosened their rules as the series progresses, especially in regards to Bran’s dreams.
“By making the first season, we set a rule: No prophecies, dreams or flashbacks. We failed the first two and this season, the third. So yes, this season will finally have flashbacks,” the producers said.
Now the question is how these flashbacks will be presented, and what events will they cover? We already know that young Cersei and Lannister Family Origins will be part of the show, but what else? Unfortunately, the two producers offered no hint as to what these flashbacks will be about, or who will be having them.
