Samsung is making its own sitcom to lure in more employees
Samsung isn’t just trying to make its products look cool, it’s trying to make its jobs look cool as well. In order to do this, the South Korean company is launching “Best Future”, and online exclusive musical sitcom that will portray Samsung as a hip place that all South Korean youths would enjoy working for.
The main character is Mirae, which means “future” in Korean, a fictional worker at the tech giant’s headquarters in Suwon, South Korea. The series will be relatively short, only six episodes long, and will follow Mirae and her roommate Chaego, which means “best” in Korean, as they sing and dance throughout their workday.
Samsung hasn’t revealed much about the storyline, but has teased the prospect of “song battles” when the series launches next month. While this serious will undoubtedly be cheesy as hell, you shouldn’t write it off just yet. According to Samsung, sitcoms as corporate marketing tools are actually pretty effective.
The company claims that a previous online series that was built around this same philosophy, called “Endless Energy”, managed to rack up over 5.5 million views last year. This approach may prove effective in South Korea, where the company is ingrained into virtual all aspects of society, but overseas it won’t do much.
