Did President Obama and Pope Francis Discuss Obamacare?
There was a little buzz surrounding the first meeting between US President Barack Obama and Pope Francis. It wasn’t as much as one might expect but between a disappearing plane, a Russian menace, and domestic issues happening at the same time, the visit was 2nd page news.
For some, it was big news, particularly those in the Catholic Church who have been fighting the President and his administration over healthcare reform that forces people to choose between the doctrine of their Catholic faith and paying fines for not complying to Obamacare.
Releases from both parties did not mention any discussions between the men during their 50-minute meeting about healthcare mandates being imposed by the President. Was it just not the right time? Is the Pope staying away from political battles? Did they discuss it but agreed not to mention it to the press? We’ll probably never know.
According to Christian Headlines:
According to a statement released by the Vatican, Pope Francis and Obama also had an “exchange of views on some current international themes, and it was hoped that in areas of conflict, there would be respect for humanitarian and international law and a negotiated solution between the parties involved.”
