A new Greek left-wing group: Popular Unity Party (aka PUP)

This pup may have some bite. With Syriza’s leader Alexis Tsipras stepping down after a failed half-year in office and the party in shambles, those opposed to the bailout deal that Tsipras was supposed to fight have formed their own part: the Popular Unity Party.

The new far-left party will be led by former energy minister Panagiotis Lafazanis. With 25 seats in the parliament, they are now the third largest behind Syriza’s 124 and conservative New Democracy Party’s 76.

According to BBC:

On Friday morning, the head of conservative New Democracy party, Vangelis Meimarakis, met with Greece’s president and he will now be given three days to form a government.

Observers say he does not have enough support and elections will be called.
