Cortana demonstrated on Windows 10 in leaked video

It’s been known for quite some time now, through various rumors and leaks, that Microsoft is bringing Cortana to Windows 10. Microsoft hasn’t even released Windows 10 yet, nor has it confirmed that Cortana will appear in it, but nonetheless, WinBeta managed to acquire a leaked build of Windows 10 with Cortana built in and decided to give it a spin. Neowin also revealed some screenshots of the assistant running on Windows 10.

For those of you who aren’t familiar, Cortana is an intelligent personal assistant and Microsoft’s answer to Siri that has already been implemented into Windows Phone in many countries, with Microsoft continuing to rollout the assistant to more areas.

WinBeta’s demonstration video shows that there’s a solid amount of functionality already built-in to Cortana for Windows 10, but as TechCrunch notes, this is still a very early build. WinBeta was able to use Cortana to set reminders, make Skype calls, check the weather, and control music. However, as the assistant wasn’t connected to cloud services, it kept throwing up error messages. It also looked a little rough around the edges, but that’ll most likely be fixed soon.

VentureBeat notes that Jen Taylor still voices the assistant for the most part, the same voice actress who voiced the Cortana character in Microsoft’s popular Halo video games. Similar to the Windows Phone version of Cortana, however, the assistant still uses a standard robotic voice in some instances, depending on the context.
