GoPro is reportedly looking to get into the consumer drone market

Many consumer drone owners love hooking up a GoPro camera to their drone in order to capture impressive aerial videos. In fact, a lot of them purchase drones solely for this reason, which is why it’s no surprise that, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal, GoPro wants to begin developing its own line of consumer drones.

These drones will reportedly be multi-rotor helicopters that’re capable of carrying high-definition cameras that’ll most likely resemble the ones used in existing devices like the GoPro Hero series. According to The Verge, GoPro is shooting for an aggressive price range of $500-$1000, which could completely shake up the consumer drone market.

Not only would this move allow GoPro to tap a rapidly growing market, it would help diversify the company’s product line which is currently limited to just action cameras. While the company has done an impressive job of creating a vibrant first-party accessory lineup to accompany its core camera offerings, it needs to expand if it wants to remain competitive.

The launch windows for GoPro’s drone is “late next year,” according to Tech Crunch, which makes it highly unlikely that we’ll get to see the new products before the next holiday season. The company is also reportedly enhancing the consumer drones with features that other drone companies, such as Parrot and DJI, don’t have.
