Renowned anti-capitalist, Michael Moore, is actually worth millions

Filmmaker Michael Moore is again being scrutinized over his lavish properties and material wealth. The one-percenter who’s known for defending the disadvantaged went through a bitter divorce battle in which he and his now-ex-wife fought over their shared wealth.

His neighbors in Michigan are even getting in on the drama. Some of them have implied to The Detroit News that Moore is a hypocrite. Moore is worth millions of dollars and owns nine properties, the most contentious of which is a 10,000-square-foot mansion on Torch Lake in Michigan. He found success with his documentaries “Bowling for Columbine,” “Roger & Me,” “Fahrenheit 9/11,” and “Capitalism: A Love Story.”

Moore’s filing from last year said his relationship with Glynn had broken down and there remained ‘no reasonable likelihood that the marriage’ could be preserved. Before finalizing the divorce, the pair squabbled over marital assets. The large amount of money 56-year-old Glynn spent on their lakefront mansion in Michigan was said to be an issue of contention.

In the divorce filings posted online by The Smoking Gun, Moore seems aware of the impression this lavish property might give off. He says his ex-wife, Kathy Glynn, was the one who pushed for the expansion. The couple were married for 22 years.

According to Celebrity Worth, Moore has $50 million in assets. Court records did not indicate exactly how much the producer is worth. The documentary maker claimed his other half ‘unilaterally wasted a large percentage of the marital funds’ with the Torch Lake mansion, which put a spotlight on his wealth and opened him up for ridicule because he has so often criticized the rich in his films.

The lake house isn’t their only home. They own a total of nine properties in Michigan and New York. Their Manhattan condo was created through ‘the combination of three separate units,’ according to The Smoking Gun. According to court filings, the couple – that does not have children – has also failed to agree on when they split. Moore said it was August 2010 and Glynn insists it’s June 2013 when Moore filed for divorce in a Michigan Circuit Court. Read more about the story here.
